'TELLURIC ACTIVITY'

(Showcase of the Finest Drum+Bass)

TELLURIC RECORDINGS along with RHYTHM FACTORY London is proud to announce the inaugural special UK edition of the New York City-based 'TELLURIC ACTIVITY' series: a label showcase presenting ground-breaking national and international talent........

Featured Line-Up for the evening:

FABIO (Creative Source)

The godfather of Liquid Funk!!!!
Having been around for over 2 decades, FABIO has acquired legendary status for good reason. Starting his career as a pirate radio DJ in the mid 80's, his style evolved with the various musical genres of Dub, Rare Groove, Hip Hop, Disco to early House, Jungle and Drum and Bass. It’s a credit to him that after all these years he remains at the top of his game.

FURNEY (TELLURIC RECORDINGS, CIA, GOOD LOOKING)

FURNEY is James Fearnside, aged 30, based in Aylesbury but born in Bradford, UK. He first got into dance music by listening to mixtapes from the early acid and hardcore DJs kindly supplied by his older sister. As these DJs moved into Drum+Bass, James followed them and his sister has clearly been a big influence.
"I started DJing because she used to make me spend money on all these records, I didn't have a clue what I was buying but she used to point all the tunes out to me. I was always fascinated by home-produced music, too and an Atari and an Akai were the next things to get if you already had Technics and wanted to be taken seriously."
Describe the 'FURNEY Sound,' not so much in terms of genre but the kind of moods and feelings you're trying to create: "I like the mystical, dreamy vibe, music that makes you think about things or feel a certain way, or puts you in a different place, rather than something that's easy to dance to on drugs. Music with a bit of stickability."
James' early releases came out on labels like BIG BUD's SoundTrax and Super8sound imprints as well as Advanced Recordings and Deep Kut run by TOTAL SCIENCE. "I think a lot of the labels heard my name through LTJ BUKEM. He was the first person I would send my tracks to and in turn he would share them with other DJs he thought might like them."
When a talented young producer who's already cut his teeth with some well-received releases joins forces with one of the iconic labels in Drum+Bass, you know there's going to be sparks. That's exactly what's happened when FURNEY and GOOD LOOKING RECORDS got together and this looks set to run and run.
FURNEY's debut release for a revitalized GOOD LOOKING was 'DRUM TOOLS.' A collaboration with MC CONRAD, the track appeared on the flipside of LTJ BUKEM's first track in three years, 'SWITCH'. Next up was 'PIPEZ,' coupled with 'LEAP OF FAITH' by UTAH JAZZ. Both tracks will feature on the 'BUKEM IN SESSION ' DVD recorded live at Exit festival in Serbia.
"'PIPEZ' is a re-rub of an old Jack Smooth track from 1994. I loved the elements so much I decided to re-work them to today's tempo for a bit of fun. BUKEM loved it so much he played it in every set for a year and then got the backing from Jack Smooth to put it out."
Then followed 'DISTANCE', coupled with SOULMATIC's 'SELF BELIEF'. With its crisp production and driving bassline, 'DISTANCE' is a perfect example of why FURNEY's productions have become such a big hit on the dancefloor. It's small wonder, therefore, that BUKEM got him involved with the GOOD LOOKING family.
"'DISTANCE' is a little number I knocked up with fellow producer HERRICK. It has a Rhodes piano groove with chipmunk House vocals - it's nothing new sounding but it moves the dancefloor."
Finally, what do you hope you will be doing in five years time? "I hope to have left my office job and be doing something musical with my day-to-day life rather than squeezing it around a nine-to-five."

PHAT PLAYAZ & JRUMHAND (TELLURIC RECORDINGS, FOKUZ, GOOD LOOKING)

PHAT PLAYAZ (aka GRAHAM BARBER) has been doing music for some years now and with being into the Drum and Bass music scene since day one has gained a lot of knowledge on music. PHAT PLAYAZ starting releasing on well-known labels such as GOOD LOOKING, FOKUZ and TELLURIC to come up with the sound he is about today.

To date, PHAT PLAYAZ has released two LP's. 'HATE TO LOVE YOU,' an album showcasing his own sound, was released to critical acclaim on TELLURIC RECORDINGS. 'THE COLABS' project, released on FOKUZ, features PHAT PLAYAZ joining forces with other like-minded producers. PHAT PLAYAZ's deep, rolling style has proved to be a mainstay in many high-profile DJ's crates around the globe.

Hailing from North London, and now residing in Kent, JRUMHAND has been contributing his productions to the Drum and Bass genre since 2007.

Taking piano lessons at the tender age of six, he has always been passionate about playing music. A love of hip hop naturally led onto buying hardcore and jungle records in the early 90’s and attending seminal clubs such as SPEED and METALHEADZ as often as he could.

Now he is getting DJ support from the very people who influenced him: veterans such as NOOKIE, LTJ BUKEM and PFM.

Starting out on BINARY SOUL RECORDS, JRUMHAND has had releases on many labels in the last few years, most recently with NOOKIE’s PHUZION DIGITAL imprint, TEXTURES MUSIC GROUP,LIQUID DROPS, and SOUL DEEP RECORDINGS.

Alongside fellow producer PHAT PLAYAZ, JRUMHAND has gone back to his first love of DJing, with more events planned in the near future.

With forthcoming releases already signed to Good Looking and Phuzion Records, Jrumhand is looking forward to the future.
